Large-scale exercises of the emergency forces in the Baku port
Baku/08.09.23/Turan: International exercises "Baku-2023" organized by the Ministry of Emergency Situations with the participation of Emergency Forces of the member countries of the Organization of Turkic States (OTG) took place on the territory of the Baku port.
Eight helicopters and one amphibious aircraft, 245 units of special-purpose equipment, specially trained dogs and 1,180 people were involved in the exercises, the Baku International Commercial Sea Port (BMMTP) statement.
Along with the equipment and personnel of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan and the Baku International Commercial Sea Port, representatives of the forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Agency for the Protection of Strategic Objects of Azerbaijan, the Association for the Management of Medical Territorial Units, the Coast Guard of the State Border Service and employees of the Azerbaijan Railways also took part in the exercises.-06B-

The United States has been working with Azerbaijan for a long time on energy issues and fossil fuel emissions, particularly focusing on technologies that reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and help transition to clean energy, the U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm stated at a press conference on November 15 during COP29 in Baku, in response to a question from Turan about how the U.S. can assist Azerbaijan in its transition to renewable and green energy.

On November 15, the Baku Appeals Court heard the complaint filed by Ulvi Hasanli, the director of the Abzas Mediapublication, against Baku's pre-trial detention center -1 detention facility and the Penitentiary Service. The complaint concerns poor conditions of detention, inhumane treatment, and restrictions on Hasanli’s rights while in custody. Representatives from both institutions failed to appear in court.

On November 14, a debate took place in the German Bundestag discussing the "horrific" human rights situation in Azerbaijan and COP29. Following the discussions, members of the Bundestag called on the Azerbaijani authorities to release political prisoners, including Gubad Ibadoglu, Anar Mammadli, Samir Ashurov, and all others detained for political reasons. The debate was initiated by Member of Parliament Frank Schwabe. In his speech, Schwabe emphasized that the COP29 conference was being held in Baku against the backdrop of severe human rights violations.

The short film “Fragments”, by Iqbal Abilov, a Talysh researcher arrested in Azerbaijan, was shown on November 14 at the Madrid Indie Film Festival (MADRIFF) in the capital of Spain. The film was presented by the author's cousin, renowned stand-up comedian Idrak Mirzali-zadeh, who read a letter from Abilov to the festival participants. In the message, Abilov expressed gratitude to everyone who helped make the project possible. He also thanked those who continue to support him during his arrest due to his scientific and public activities. "I hope that justice will prevail soon, my innocence will be proven, and once I am released, I will come to Madrid and watch all the films at the festival," Abilov stated.
