Lyon Court confirms illegality of agreements with Karabakh separatists
Baku/27.08.21/Turan: The Court of Appeal of Lyon upheld decisions of the courts of first instance on the cancellation of agreements signed by mayors of French cities with "administrations" of the Karabakh separatists in Shusha and Khojavand, the Azerbaijani Embassy in France reports.
In particular, agreements signed by mayors of Bourg-les-Valence ( October 5, 2014), Descinet-Charpier (September 25, 2017) and Saint-Etienne ( October 21, 2018) were declared invalid
Note that earlier these decisions were declared illegal by administrative courts of Grenoble (June 6, 2019) and Lyon (September 19, 2019). However, the Armenian lobby challenged verdicts in the appeal instance. The decision of the Lyon Court of Appeal is final and cannot be appealed any longer.
It is important to note that the French courts recognized that the decisions of mayors were contrary to the French Constitution and violated its international obligations.
It was efforts of the Azerbaijani Embassy in France that made it possible to cancel 10 "charters and agreements" of French towns with the Karabakh separatists.
It should be emphasized that there are claims in the courts over three more illegal charters. The Azerbaijani side is taking measures to cancel 13 more illegal acts adopted in the autumn of 2020, during the 44-day war. –06D-
