Macron may deprive France of mediator role in Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict
Baku/14.10.22/Turan: Statements by French President Emmanuel Macron against Azerbaijan in his TV interview of October 12 are absolutely one-sided - in favor of Armenia. They are absolutely unacceptable and are rejected by Azerbaijan. This is what the Foreign Ministry said in his commentary on Macron's interview with France 2.
According to Macron, two years ago, Azerbaijan started a "terrible war which resulted in numerous victims and atrocities and occupation. He also blamed Azerbaijan for the recent military escalation on the border with Armenia.
As noted in the commentary, the French President's remarks are directed against Azerbaijan and openly defend Armenia.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry rejects the "groundless accusations of the French head of state".
"The French President is the head of the state, which as the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair has never commented on the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia, the flagrant violation of its territorial integrity and the rights of hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanians, disregard of the fundamental principles of international law and the UN Security Council resolutions," he said. - The commentary of the Foreign Ministry reads.
Added to this can be that Azerbaijan has not rejected the mediation initiatives of the French President in spite of the inability of the Minsk Group.
Thus, a 4-party meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia was held with his participation on February 4, 2022 and October 6, 2022.
However, the current statements of the French President towards Azerbaijan cast doubt on the "neutrality and impartiality" of his mediation efforts.
"France's one-sided position and its groundless accusations make it necessary to reconsider the country's mediation efforts," the Foreign Ministry's commentary concludes. -06В-
