Madat Guliyev: Spies Exist, but We Neutralize Them
Baku / 29.05.17 / Turan: "In Azerbaijan there are interests of other states and, of course, espionage takes place here, but we neutralize them."
The head of the State Security Service (SSS), Madat Guliyev, told reporters on May 27. "We transmitted information about the disclosure of the spy network at the Ministry of Defense, which was conducted by the leadership of the Defense Ministry on behalf of the head of state," said the head of the SSS.
Madat Guliyev also touched upon the death of prisoners, noting that the situation in this area in Azerbaijan is not worse than in other countries. "Cases of death among prisoners are not related to putting special pressure on them. Such cases take place in all institutions of the Penitentiary System," Madat Guliyev said.
Last week, a joint statement was issued by the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of the Interior and the SSS. The document referred to the arrest of a group of servicemen who were involved in secret cooperation with the bodies of foreign special services.
