Baku / 08.05.19 / Turan: First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva expressed her attitude to the situation around the historic building in the center of Baku, which is threatened with demolition.
"Protecting the architectural and historical heritage of Azerbaijan and its capital Baku is a priority task for all of us," said the First Vice President, Mehriban Aliyeva, on her Instagram page last night.
"To solve it, both civil position, and people"s being not indifferent to the architectural appearance of their hometown, and active public control are necessary. The situation around the old building on Suleiman Rustam Street in Baku is under state control. All measures are being taken so that the cultural heritage of our country is not damaged, because unique and diverse architectural monuments are our common heritage. Our country, our city must be protected, as our own home is our common home!", the statement said.
* This is a building on 10 Suleiman Rustam Street, built in 1913 as a Molokan prayer house. In Soviet times, it was used as a radio house. In recent years, the building has been abandoned and empty. At the beginning of this year, film lovers from the Salaam Cinema organization began using it. However, two days ago, the police and the owner of the building tried to force young activists out of the building by force. Their protests against the demolition of the building, as well as public support forced the authorities to intervene and stop the eviction process. To protect the building, young people staged round-the-clock watch. -06D--
