Mehriban Aliyeva turned down mission of UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador
Baku/15.11.22/Turan: The First Vice-President of Azerbaijan has ceased her activity as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. She said this in a letter to UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay.
The message recalls the implementation by Azerbaijan of joint projects with UNESCO in a number of countries on the protection of cultural heritage, education for girls, gender equality, etc.
Aliyeva focuses on the acts of vandalism of Armenia against the cultural heritage and historical monuments of Azerbaijan in Karabakh during the almost 30-year period of occupation.
At present, Aliyeva is involved in large-scale work on the restoration and revival of the region after its liberation from occupation. For this reason, she cannot perform the duties of a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.
Aliyeva also expressed hope for the speedy organization of a UNESCO mission to the liberated territories to assess the damage to the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan. -06B-
