Minnesota declared February 26 the Day of Azerbaijan
Baku/13.02.21/Turan: The American state of Minnesota, declared February 26 the Day of Azerbaijan. The corresponding declaration signed the governor of the American state of Minnesota Tim Walls, the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora of Azerbaijan reported.
The declaration was initiated by Gunel Rallis, the head of the Azerbaijan Association of Minnesota.
The document stresses that Azerbaijanis living in Minnesota contribute to the local culture, preserving and promoting their native language, rich national cultural values and traditions.
The announcement of the Day of Azerbaijan on February 26 is timed to the 29th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.
In 2016, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed a resolution on the 24th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.
On the night of February 25-26, Armenian armed formations with the support of the 366th regiment of the former Soviet Army captured the Azerbaijani-populated city of Khojaly in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The capture of the city was accompanied by the massacre of civilians. A total of 613 people were killed.-06D-
