Moscow proposes to hold a parliamentary conference of the Caspian countries
Baku/27.09.22/Turan: On September 26, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova received Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin, who paid an official visit to Azerbaijan. During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on various aspects of relations between the legislative bodies of the two countries, press release from the Milli Majlis.
Gafarova said that today more than 250 interstate and intergovernmental documents have been signed between the two countries. "In this area, the Declaration on Allied Relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, signed during the official visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Russia in February this year, raised our relations to a new level," she said.
In turn, Viacheslav Volodin called for further strengthening of ties and came up with a number of initiatives. According to the press service of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Volodin called for more active interaction between the legislators of the two countries to ensure the decisions of the heads of state and, in particular, the Treaty on Allied Interaction.
“It would be right to discuss new formats of interaction,” he said. Such a format could be a parliamentary conference of the Caspian countries to discuss strategic issues - security, shipping, ecology and environmental protection, Volodin noted.
“Now there is a discussion about the creation of a school in Azerbaijan in accordance with the educational standards of the Russian Federation, about the opening of branches of Russian universities. All this, of course, makes our relations stronger,” Volodin continued.
To continue the cultural dialogue, Volodin proposed holding an exhibition in the State Duma dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev. He also invited Sahiba Gafarova to visit Russia before the end of the year and sign an agreement on cooperation between the State Duma of the Russian Federation and the Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan.
It should be noted that the delegation of the State Duma included two deputy chairmen - Alexei Gordeev and Vladislav Davankov, as well as the heads of the Committees: on CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots Leonid Kalashnikov; on defense Andrey Kartapolov; Transport and Infrastructure Evgeniy Moskvichev; for Science and Higher Education Sergey Kabyshev; in Regional Policy and Local Self-Government Aleksey Didenko. --02D--
