Moscow's interests in the new growth of Azerbaijani-Armenian enmity
Baku/27.05.21/Turan: New tension is growing between Azerbaijan and Armenia. People die and are captured again. On May 25, the Armenian Ministry of Defense reported that as a result of a shootout that began after the enemy fired on the Verin Shorzha border area in Gegharkunik region, a contract serviceman, junior sergeant V.Khurshudyan, was fatally wounded. The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry ruled out the guilt of Azerbaijanis in the death of the Armenian soldier, stating that our army did not open fire.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova commented on the incidents on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, which caused the death of an Armenian soldier, at the request of the journalist of the Public Television of Armenia, during a briefing on Wednesday.
"As for the border incident, it is not directly related to the Nagorno-Karabakh problem. The main reason is the absence of international legal registration of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, inherited from Soviet times. We proceed from the fact that such situations should be resolved exclusively by peaceful negotiation", said Zakharova.
In the next phrase, as a long-term solution, she noted the launch of the process of delimitation of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border with its subsequent demarcation, in fact, supporting the same demands of Baku. “Russia is ready to help this in every possible way,” Zakharova said.
After this, events escalated. On the 27th at night, at three o'clock, the Armenian provocations continued. As reported by the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, the Armenian sabotage group tried to mine the territory of the village of Yukhary Ayrim in the Kalbajar region. As a result of operational actions, six Armenian servicemen were surrounded and taken prisoner. Further, the Armenian side tried to continue the provocation with the use of armored vehicles, but by the retaliatory actions of the Azerbaijani army, the enemy was forced to stop the operation.
In Azerbaijan, the press and social networks comment on what is happening. Public activist Rasul Jafarov suggests adding six new prisoners to the list of saboteurs, prosecuting them for a crime against Azerbaijan and stopping the extradition of previously captured saboteurs to Armenia.
Former Foreign Minister Tofig Zulfugarov believes that the Armenian provocations at the border are aimed at creating a new conflict zone and attracting mediators, possibly returning the Minsk Group. The next step is to create an international security-monitoring mission. Zulfugarov says Pashinyan is interested in depriving Russia of monopoly control over the Caucasus.
Political analyst Arastun Orujdu, in an interview with Turan, called Russia the main initiator of the events of the past three weeks. Moscow's goal, in his opinion, is to accelerate the process of restoring communications in the region, which Russia needs to implement its plans in the Caucasus and the Middle East. To accomplish its tasks, Moscow is ready to confront two countries - Azerbaijan and Armenia, so local clashes in the region are possible. –0--
