Musavat Condemns Use of Excessive Force by Police
Baku / 08.06.20 / Turan: The Musavat party issued a statement in which it condemned the use of excessive force by the police against citizens under the strict quarantine regime in Baku and other large cities of Azerbaijan last weekend.
The party’s statement states that law enforcement agencies must act within the framework of the law, responsibly and without abuse of power, and not take measures not prescribed by law.
Musavat believes that warnings and, in extreme cases, fines should be applied against violators.
Musavat condemned the actions of employees of the Rapid Response Regiment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs bursting into apartments in a house on Dadash Bunyadzadeh Street on June 8 without judicial sanction and using force to detain citizens suspected of committing offense as if they were criminals.
Musavat believes that the abuse of citizens in their apartments is a psychological stress for older people and patients.
Failure to comply with elementary ethical standards dishonors the Azerbaijani state and the police.
Musavat demanded the identification and punishment of persons who authorized the indicated illegal actions and performed them.—06--
