“Musavat”  Party Calls on Authorities to Free Political Prisoners

The opposition party “Musavat” has demanded the release of all political prisoners and stated that the authorities are responsible for their health conditions,  it was announced at a meeting of the party's Executive Board (Divan) on Monday. “Musavat” expressed concern over reports of health problems among many political prisoners, including civil society activists Anar Mamedli and Alekser Mamedli.

According to the latest data from human rights organizations, there are 331 political prisoners in the country. Many of them suffer from various illnesses and do not receive adequate medical care. In addition, they face psychological and physical pressure.

In response to these accusations, the Penitentiary Service stated that the information regarding pressure on prisoners is not accurate. "The conditions for those held in detention facilities comply with legal norms and internal regulations, and discrimination is not allowed," the Penitentiary Service reported.
