Najmeddin Sadykov to attend NATO event
Baku / 15.01.18 / Turan: First Deputy Minister of Defense, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Najmedin Sadykov left for Brussels. According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense, N. Sadykov will take part in the meetings of the NATO Military Committee, organized in the formats "Strong Support" and "Stability Design". The event will be held January 16 at NATO Headquarters at the level of Chiefs of Staff. Cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO began in 1994. The main part of this cooperation is military cooperation, military modernization, political consultations on security issues and the organization of peacekeeping operations.
At the Prague Summit of NATO in 2002, with the aim of expanding the cooperation of the partner countries, the Individual Partnership Action Plan was adopted. In May 2013, Azerbaijan officially applied to join this structure. In October 20015, President Ilham Aliyev approved this plan. However, in recent years, Azerbaijani officials have openly stated that the goal of membership in NATO is not being set. The Azerbaijani opposition explains this for two reasons. On the one hand, Azerbaijan does not want to annoy Russia, on the other, it does not want reforms. However, officials say they are pursuing a balanced policy. -0-
