National Council condemns the aggression of Russia against Ukraine
The National Council of Democratic Forces of Azerbaijan made a statement about events in Ukraine. The document says that the current crisis has been caused by the anti-European policy of former President Yanukovych. The crisis began with protests and led to the revolution, and the change of government was a victory of the people.
In response, Russia decided to violate the territorial integrity of Ukraine under the pretext of protecting the Russian minority in the Crimea.
"The struggle of the Ukrainian people is right and the whole world should be close to Ukraine," the statement says.
"Russia committed aggression against Georgia in 2008 and now wants to repeat this scenario in Ukraine, but on a larger scale. Then Georgia did not receive sufficient international support and now the international community must not allow the same mistakes," said the National Council.
Russia's actions with the introduction of troops, holding a referendum and its claims to the Crimea are a violation of the legitimate rights of the Crimean Tatars - the rightful owners of the Crimea," the statement says.
This nation in the Soviet times was subjected to genocide, deportation and torture. These rights were not restored by the decay of the Soviet Union and are now under threat again because of the aggressive policy of the Kremlin.
All these questions and problems should be solved peacefully through negotiations, the statement by the National Council says. -05D-
