National Council condemns the arrest of Kamala Bananyarly
The National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) condemned the arrest of the activists of the Popular Front of Azerbaijan, Kamala Bananyarly during a peaceful protest action against the unjust decision of the Baku Serious Crimes Court against eight activists of NIDA Movement.
The statement says that over 23 years of independence of Azerbaijan, no woman has been sentenced to 30 days of administrative arrest. During her detention, Bananyarli, mother of two children, was beaten in the Nasimi district police, and was not provided with lawyer.
The National Council regards such attitude towards women as another success of the Aliyev’s regime.
The NCDF wonders why the authorities did not show "humanism" to Bananyarli, a woman and mother, but released Guler Ahmadova, who is involved in the heaviest crime, according to the Azerbaijani Constitution, appropriation of state power, who was formally accused of fraud. The ruling party Yeni Azerbaijan, shows humanism to Guler Ahmadova, its accomplice, partner in crime humanism, and at the same time applied torture degrading dignity of Kamala Bananyarli as a woman , thus demonstrating its true attitude to the Azerbaijani woman and mother.
"As the National Council we regard this act by the ruling YAP as its moral face and act of immorality by the current government. All necessary measures will be taken for the legal protection of Kamala Bananyarly, and this unworthy act by authorities will be given a legal assessment. There is not doubt that the Azerbaijani people will say its the most dramatic and weighty word to the authorities that raised hand against the Azerbaijani woman and mother, subjecting her to cruel tortures, violating all moral and ethical boundaries, and trampling all sacred values, " the statement said. -0 –
