National Council responded to allegations from Saakashvili

Charges from the President of Georgia that the National Council of Azerbaijan is the Russian project to destabilize Azerbaijan is absurd. This opinion was expressed in an interview with Turan by the head of the executive office of the National Council Eldar Namazov, commenting on Saakashvili's speech before a group of his supporters on August 1.

"In this way Saakashvili has buried his democratic credentials. According to his logic, it turns out that the people of Azerbaijan should not fight for democracy or oppose the authoritarian regime, or demand free and fair elections. How can a Democrat talk like that?

How did he decide that people fighting for European integration are puppets of Russia? The National Council includes the leaders of the liberal opposition and civil society.

I think that Saakashvili’s speech was of conjuncture character and he demonstrated the open support of the authoritarian regime in Azerbaijan not for the first time. Apparently, Saakashvili is already thinking about the possibility to find a refuge in the light of the serious charges against him in Georgia. He cannot receive a refuge in a democratic country, therefore he could have it in an authoritarian country," said Namazov.

During their stay in Tbilisi, the members of the National Council talked with the local population and politicians. The rating Saakashvili is close to zero, and no one said a good word about him.

As soon as he steps down as President, he will be attracted to criminal liability. Performance of such a person as a defender of democracy and at the same time of another authoritarian ruler in Azerbaijan is comical, said Namazov.

Since when does the requirement to hold free and fair elections mean a desire to break stability? At present, only two forces in the world perceive the National Council, as anti-national force that tends to destabilize Azerbaijan - the authoritarian regime of Azerbaijan and Mikhail Saakashvili, Eldar Namazov concluded. -03B-
