NATO Secretary General in Georgia
Baku / 26.03.19 / Turan: NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg visited the Joint Training and Evaluation Center (JTEC) near Tbilisi and got acquainted with the course of the NATO-Georgia 2019 multinational command and staff exercises. This is reported by the press service of the Government of Georgia.
The exercises, in which 350 soldiers from 21 countries of the alliance are taking part, as well as soldiers from Azerbaijan, Finland, Sweden and Georgia, are taking place on the territory of the Krtsanisi training and military education center. They started on March 18 and will continue until March 29.
The purpose of the exercise is to increase the compatibility of the armed forces of NATO and the partner countries, as well as to enhance the management capabilities of the Georgian Defense Forces.
The First Deputy Commander of the Georgian Defense Forces, Colonel Nikoloz Janjgava, told the NATO Secretary General about the course of the exercise. After that, Stoltenberg met with the wounded Georgian military, most of whom were members of the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan.
"I know that you are serving for your country and our alliance. The work that you do is very important for all of us, since you are helping in the fight against terrorism," said Stoltenberg.
"There are still a lot of problems in Afghanistan, but we know that today Afghanistan is no longer a haven for Al-Qaida and international terrorists. It would be impossible without you, so on behalf of all members of the alliance, partner countries and all those people who live peacefully in their country today, I want to thank you for your service and all that you have done for the alliance," said Stoltenberg.
As head of the North Atlantic Alliance, Stoltenberg has visited Georgia for the third time. Today, in an expanded format, he held meetings with the Prime Minister and the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, as well as with the Chairman of Parliament, Irakly Kobakhidze. -02D-
