Nazim Beydemirli granted meeting with his family after 40 days of arrest
Baku/25.08.23/Turan: Former MP, businessman Nazim Beydemirli, detained in Baku SIZO-1, was granted a meeting with his family on 24 August for the first time after 40 days of arrest. The meeting with his wife Farida Beydemirli lasted 20 minutes. She herself informed Turan about it.
"We communicated through a glass partition. He looked cheerful. Nazim has no complaints about the conditions of detention and treatment, he is undergoing a medical examination, he is given the necessary medication," the wife said. Earlier she stated that she was not allowed to meet him even despite an appropriate court decision.
* N. Beydemirli was detained on 4 July by the Main Department for Combating Organised Crime of the Interior Ministry. A charge was brought against him under Article 182.2.4 (extortion by threatening to take property in a significant amount) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. The next day, the court chose a preventive measure against him in the form of arrest for 4 months. Beydemirli rejected the accusation, called it fabricated and devoid of legal grounds.
According to him, the real reason for his arrest is his speeches due to the protests of the residents of Soyudliu of Gadabey region against the environmental pollution caused by the nearby gold ore processing plant.
Human rights activists recognised Beydemirli as a political prisoner. -03В06-
