Baku/27.10.23/Turan: Prime Ministers Irakli Garibashvili of Georgia and Ali Asadov of Azerbaijan joined in a momentous ceremony marking the commencement of construction of the new building for the Heydar Aliyev Azerbaijan State Drama Theater in the heart of Tbilisi. The event, captured by local TV channels, celebrated the rich cultural ties between the two nations.
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Garibashvili highlighted the profound historical significance of this initiative, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange and collaboration. "The Azerbaijani theater has a great history in our country. The first theater was founded in 1872, and today we are glad that the foundation for the construction of a new building is being laid, and very soon our capital will be replenished with another landmark. Today is another confirmation of our deep ties, our cooperation," remarked Garibashvili during the capsule-laying ceremony.
The construction of this theater holds special meaning, as it coincides with the centenary celebration of the birth of the first President of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, scheduled for 2023.
The new theater, set to begin construction in the near future, will grace the Ortachala district of Tbilisi, in close proximity to the Azerbaijani Embassy in Georgia. Designed to occupy an area of 2,566 square meters, the theater building will encompass a total floor space of 5,480 square meters, comprising lower, first, and second floors.
The first floor will span 2,110 square meters, while the second floor will measure 1,260 square meters. The project envisions the restoration and expansion of the historic building on the designated site, preserving the rich architectural heritage of the area.
Once completed, the theater is expected to accommodate 256 patrons. Furthermore, the project offers the possibility of expanding the audience capacity to 592 individuals by incorporating a recommended additional land area of 999 square meters..-0--

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
