'No Evidence So Far' That China Supplying Lethal Weapons To Russia, Biden Says
Washington D.C./25.02.23/Turan: There is 'no evidence so far" that China is militarily backing Russia in Ukraine, U.S. President Joe Biden told reporters on Friday while warning any support would have economic consequences for Beijing, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports from the White House.
Asked if he was worried Beijing would support Russia in its war against Ukraine, Biden recalled he spoke to his Chinese counterpart about the issue last summer, and about the economic ramifications: "I said, ‘Look, it's not a threat. It's just a statement,” he added.
According to him, President Xi “said that the future of China rests on investment from the Western world — that matters.”
Biden's comments came as U.S. officials announced this week that they had intelligence referring to Chinese government's "considering providing Russia with ammunition" for use in the war in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the U.S. ambassador to the UN, told reporters on Friday that if China goes ahead with reported plans to send lethal weapons aid to Russia, that “would be a game changer” in the bilateral relationship between Washington and Beijing,
