Notorious Deputy Refuses Mandate
Baku / 09.30.19 / Turan: Member of the Milli Majlis Rafael Jabrayilov refused the deputy mandate. This happened against the background of media reports that he had laid down his deputy mandate as a guarantee that he would pay back a debt of 300 thousand dollars.
Jabrayilov could not repay this debt, taken from several people he knew, explaining that his apartment business caused losses and apartments in the multi-storey residential building he and his brother built were not sold.
The deputy"s appeal on the refusal of the mandate was read out on September 30 at a meeting of the Milli Majlis by the head of the MM Committee on Legal Policy and State Construction Issues Ali Huseynli.
The corresponding decision in the protocol order will be sent for approval by the CEC, Huseynli said.
Note that Jabrayilov was the author of a number of reactionary legislative initiatives restricting the rights and freedoms of citizens.
This is the second scandalous resignation of a deputy in the Azerbaijani parliament over the past seven years. In 2012, Gular Ahmedova was forced to give up her mandate, which became the focus of the "bargaining for a seat in parliament" scandal. -D06-
