Number of Candidates for Deputies Rapidly Declining
Baku / 25.01.20 / Turan: As of January 24, the number of registered candidates for parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan fell to 1,409.
This is evidenced by the data on the districts, published on the website of the information center Elections.
According to the CEC, from the beginning of the election campaign 237 candidates refused to continue participating in the elections.
The CEC also confirmed information about the resignation of the chairman of the district election commission of the 35th Khatai III district, Imran Huseynaliev for health reasons. Nobody has been appointed in his place. In this district, a sharp rivalry is developing between the chairman of the Umid (Hope) party Igbal Agazadeh and the editor of the Yeni Musavat newspaper Rauf Arifoglu. These former associates are currently sharply criticizing each other. —06B-

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.
