Operation of the anti-corruption department at the Baku Transport Agency
Baku/25.07.23/Turan: On the evening of July 25, the Main Anti-Corruption Directorate under the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan conducted an operation at the Baku Transport Agency (BTA). The Prosecutor General's Office confirmed this event and stated that additional information about the operation and its results will be provided to the public.
The activities of the Baku Transport Agency were terminated by the decree of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev dated April 19, 2023. This decree is aimed at improving the management of road transport in Baku. As a result, all assets belonging to the agency were transferred to the balance of the Land Transport Agency under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport.
In addition, the President signed an order on the establishment of the Coordinating Transport Council. This council was created with the aim of coordinating transport efforts, developing road and transport infrastructure, as well as improving the organization, safety and regulation of road traffic. It consists of deputy Ministers of Industry and heads of various transport departments, and the Minister of Digital Development and Transport is its chairman.
The Baku Transport Agency was initially established on December 21, 2015 under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Its main goal was to ensure the safe and uninterrupted movement of vehicles and pedestrians within the city of Baku.
The BTA received about 150 million manats of state investments annually. Despite this financial support, the agency's activities have been criticized by the public due to problems related to public transport, inefficient management and lack of transparency.--06B--
