PACE President calls for the immediate release of Ilgar Mamedov
"I call for the immediate release of Ilgar Mammadov," wrote on his page on twitter, PACE President Ann Brassor. On May 22 the European Court of Human Rights adopted decision stating that the purpose of the arrest of Ilgar Mammadov is to silence him and punish him. On March 17, 2014 Sheki Serious Crimes Court sentenced Ilgar Mammadov to seven years' imprisonment. He was convicted on trumped up charges in connection with the events Ismayilly region on 23-24 January 2013.
On May 22 the European Court recognized violation of the liberty of the leader of the Movement REAL, Ilgar Mamedov, the presumption of his innocence, and the restriction of his rights.
Amnesty International has declared him a prisoner of conscience. However, the Azerbaijani authorities deny that the arrest of Ilgar Mamedov was politically motivated. - 16D04-
