Parliament discusses issue of gas meters
Baku/12.02.21/Turan: At today’s session of parliament a Deputy of the Milli Mejlis Azay Guliyev proposed to create a working group on gas meters explaining this to a large number of citizens' complaints.
"The indicators of mechanical and electronic meters differ from actual consumption, as a result, citizens are forced to pay more than they used," Guliyev said.
He drew attention to the fact that the meters are illegally sold to tenants by housing cooperatives.
It is necessary to create a commission, consisting of representatives of Azerigaz and NGOs, and conduct a transparent and joint investigation of the issue.
“In addition, to increase transparency and ensure public oversight, it is necessary to create public councils at all utilities, especially in natural monopolies. The law obliges the creation of public councils only under the central, local authorities and local government structures. If there is a need, the legislation can be amended to provide a mechanism for public control and utilities. I believe that we must make this change to the legislation,” he said.
The recent replacement of Smart gas meters by Azerigaz with mechanical ones has caused dissatisfaction among consumers. Mechanical meters register overestimated gas consumption. Experts also criticized the transition to mechanical meters. –06D-
