Pashinyan continues Armenia`s territorial claims to Azerbaijan - Foreign Ministry
Baku/02.09.23//Turan: The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry strongly condemned and rejected the statement by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyanmade on September 2, which became another proof of the ongoing territorial claims against Azerbaijan and the promotion of separatism in the Karabakh region of the country, the comment of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry in connection with Pashinyan's congratulatory message "on the occasion of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence of Nagorno-Karabakh."
Pashinyan's message contradicts his earlier statement of support for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, including the Karabakh region, and is a serious blow to the peace process currently underway, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry noted.
The ministry recalled that the adventure, conceived as a unilateral secession of "Nagorno-Karabakh" without the permission of Azerbaijan, contradicted Soviet legislation, which was confirmed at the highest constitutional level at that time. Everyone knows that the illegal "independence referendum" held by separatists in Karabakh on December 10, 1991 under the pretext of the right to self-determination was organized without the consent of Azerbaijan and without the participation of the Azerbaijani population of this region, the commentary of the country's foreign ministry further emphasizes.
Armenia's claims about gaining the "independence" of "Nagorno-Karabakh" also contradict the principle of uti possidetis adopted in international law ("what you own, you own", this principle was the basis for recognizing the borders of the former Soviet republics when they gained independence due to the collapse of the USSR, ed. note) and therefore are completely unfounded also with from the point of view of international legislation.
As a result of the 44-day Patriotic War, which began in response to another military provocation by Armenia, which did not abandon the policy of aggression, Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry further noted.
"The destructive behavior demonstrated by Armenia against the background of the new realities that have developed in the region not only has no prospects, but also leads Armenia to suffering. Any attempts to make any claims against the Azerbaijani territories and incite aggressive separatist tendencies in our territories will continue to be resolutely suppressed," the statement of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry. ----06в---
