Pashinyan Opposes Yerevan-Baku-Moscow Trilateral Meeting
Baku / 30.09.20 / Turan: Armenia does not consider it possible to hold a trilateral meeting with Russia and Azerbaijan on the Karabakh issue at this stage, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a meeting with a group of Russian journalists in Yerevan on September 29.
“During intense hostilities, it is not very appropriate to talk about the Armenia-Azerbaijan-Russia summit. An appropriate atmosphere and conditions are needed for negotiations,” Pashinyan said.
In his words, Armenia has always been ready for a peaceful settlement of the Karabakh problem, "but this does not mean that Armenia or Karabakh are ready to resolve the issue to the detriment of their national interests and security," he said.
When asked whether it is possible to use the Russian military base in the conflict with Azerbaijan, Pashinyan replied: “The Russian military base is an integral part of the security system of Armenia. In specific situations, the potential of the base has to be used. At this stage, the need to use the potential of the base has not been formed."
He also noted that Armenia will not apply to the CSTO yet. “Contacting the CSTO is a political issue. It's very difficult to talk about limits when it's time to turn. We work closely with the CSTO, but launching specific procedures is another matter. The Armed Forces of Armenia are capable of protecting the security of the country,” Pashinyan said.
Armenia does not consider the possibility of bringing international peacekeeping forces into the zone of the Karabakh conflict, he said and noted that he had not discussed with Putin the issue of Russia's military intervention in the hostilities in Karabakh.
“There was no such issue on the agenda of our conversations,” Pashinyan modestly noted, but he called Putin twice over the past two or three days and discussed the situation in the conflict zone.
From all that has been said, we can conclude that it was not possible to persuade Moscow to support Yerevan, and Armenia is left alone with Azerbaijan. -02D-
