Peacekeepers Should Be Regulated by Law - MPs
Baku / 16.12.20 / Turan: Free interpretation of the mandate of the Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh and their constant "improvisations" cause irritation in Azerbaijan. The restrained reaction of the first days was gradually replaced by open criticism of the activities of the Russian military.
The level of criticism has risen from ordinary citizens to political parties and parliamentary deputies in Azerbaijan.
Thus, Member of Parliament Gudrat Huseynguliyev considers it necessary to adopt a law regulating the activities of peacekeepers. According to him, there is international practice and peacekeepers should deal with their direct responsibilities, and not solve economic or political issues.
Another MP, Aydin Mirzazadeh, agrees with him and asks why the peacekeepers carry cement and boards and also why and on what basis a Humanitarian Center is being created in Karabakh. Resolving socio-economic issues is the prerogative of the Azerbaijani authorities.
The Azerbaijani public also has many questions on the actions of the peacekeepers’ staff, which walk under the flag of the self-proclaimed NKR and exchange hugs and kisses with the leaders of the separatists, against whom criminal cases have been initiated in Azerbaijan. Why do the peacekeepers close their eyes to the presence of units of the Armenian Armed Forces in Karabakh, which should have been withdrawn from there?
Answers to these questions must be given, because if someone wants to turn the mission of the peacekeepers into a process of conservation and preservation of the separatist regime in Karabakh, then the resumption of the conflict will be inevitable.-02B-
