Person who attacked Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran faces 'most severe punishment' - Tehran prosecutor
Baku/14.09.23/Turan: The indictment of the person who committed an armed attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran seeks the most severe punishment. This was announced by Tehran chief prosecutor Ali Salehi, IRNA reported.
The agency reports that on 27 January there was an armed attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran, as a result of which one employee was killed and three others were wounded.
According to Salehi, the criminal case was fully investigated, the detainee was charged with murder of an Azerbaijani citizen inside the Embassy, illegal acquisition and carrying of weapons, violation of public order with the use of AK-47 rifle and pistol.
The investigation is open to bring other charges against the arrested person, in particular, intentional damage to the health of Embassy staff and damage to the property of the diplomatic mission.
It ought to be noted that in Azerbaijan the attack on the Embassy was regarded as a terrorist act. However, according to Tehran prosecutor, the Iranian justice did not qualify it as a terrorist attack. -03В06-
