PGO: Leila Yunus and Arif Yunusov wanted to leave Azerbaijan forever
The Press Office of the General Prosecutor's Office in the evening on April 29 issued a statement on the detention of Leila Yunus and Arif Yunusov at the Baku airport the day before. This was explained with the need to take their testimony for the investigation on a concrete criminal case, without specifying what it is.
The press release stated that, despite the handed writs and made phone calls, Leila Yunus and Arif Yunusov "unreasonably deviated from the investigation."
It is further reported that on April 25 Arif Yunusov was hospitalized with a diagnosis of "hypertensive crisis and hypertensive disease III". Although April 28 he was released, he did not show up to testify in the investigation and tried to "take a large sum from the bank", the press release said.
On the evening of April 28 Leila and Arif "in order to leave the country forever" with the assistance of a number of foreign countries, arrived at the airport and wanted to fly to Doha and then to one of the European countries. However, their attempt to evade the investigation was stopped, according to the press release.
Based on the decision of the Yasamal district court of Baku, inspection of the baggage was conducted and several documents and other objects were seized, including documents on Leila Yunusova's property abroad, news media and other documents that are material evidence.
According to the court, the places of work and residence were also searched.
Leila Yunus is attracted to the case as a witness and to continue treatment Arif Yunusov was again hospitalized.
