Presidents of Azerbaijan and Georgia discussed the incident in Baku during a football match
Tbilisi/04.08.14/Turan-BSPRESS: The Presidents of Azerbaijan and Georgia, Ilham Aliyev and Giorgi Margvelashvili, in a telephone conversation discussed the incident in Baku during a football match between the teams of Neftchi and Chihura, Georgian media reported.
"The Presidents of Azerbaijan and Georgia during the conversation indicated that such incidents cannot affect the friendly relations between the two countries," the statement said.
July 31 during a game between the football team Neftchi and the club Chihura from Georgia, held in the third qualifying round of the Europe League, clashes occurred between the Georgian and Azerbaijani fans. "The reason was that the Georgian fans in the Bakcell Arena Stadium posted a map, on which areas of the Azerbaijani Zagatala and Gakh regions were shown as Georgian," the Azerbaijani media reported.
Confrontation occurred, but police and interior troops foiled the massive collision.
Law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan and Georgia are investigating the incident. Several Georgian fans were detained, but soon released, and after the match, the head coach of Chihura, Samson Pruidze apologized for the behavior of the Georgian fans.
The game between the two teams in Baku ended 0-0. The return match will be held in Tbilisi at the Mikhail Meshi Stadium on August 7. -02D-
