Prison Service Says Amiraslanov Realized All
The hunger strike announced by Ilham Amiraslanov was stopped yesterday, the public relations department of the Prison Service told Turan. Amiraslanov is a member of the Staff of the Civil Society Kura and is serving his sentence in Prison Number 5 in the village Halage of Salyan.
According to the same source, Amiraslanov made a written appeal to the media, which reported that he had asked the court to release him on parole. Since the beginning of the trial was dragged on, he decided to start a hunger strike. The prison told him that the trial will take place next week, with which Amiraslanov agreed.
"The next day, in connection with the psychological state, I still went on hunger strike. Several media write that the hunger strike started for political reasons. I declare that my action is associated with a psychological condition and carries no political motivation.
On August 26 at 17:30 I asked the chief of the jail for the termination of the action. I do not want to be an instrument in the hands of sly politicians, and I do not want to be called a political prisoner and prisoner of conscience. I support the internal and external policies of President Ilham Aliyev and believe in his re-election," the statement says.
In turn, the coordinator of the Staff of the Civil Society Kura Oktay Gyulalyev said he did not believe that this could be written by Amiraslanov. According to him, since Friday Amiraslanov has not been allowed to contact his family, and no contact with him. He believes that Amiraslanov is under pressure.
* Ilham Amiraslanov is known as a principled and consistent fighter for the rights of people affected by floods in 2010. In early June 2012, he was arrested on charges of illegal possession of weapons and tortured.
