Prosecutor's Office Like Club of "Friends" for Their Media
Baku / 20.08.20 / Turan: The prosecutor's office, like the rest of the country's law enforcement agencies, has been violating the law on the media for many years, giving out in private information about criminal cases to “their” journalists.
And now, when the special operation of the prosecutor's office in Kurdamir took place, there is not a single line on the website of this department. But a number of pro-government media have already reported on the arrest of the head of the district executive power and his deputies. In addition, these media publish articles of the criminal code, which are being charged and accused of.
At the request of Turan agency, the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office refused to confirm or deny these publications. When asked who gave the press information about the details of the investigation, the press service was also unable to answer.
Formally, the materials of the investigation are being disclosed, which is a punishable act. Why, then, is the prosecutor's office sitting idly? Until now, the same prosecutor's office at the level of the Deputy Prosecutor General has summoned and threatened independent and opposition journalists dozens of times for interrogations if they continue to divulge the secrets of the investigation. So why is the prosecutor's office silent now?
It was hoped that with the arrival of the new prosecutor general, the situation would change and the promised reforms would change this vicious practice, but apparently this will not happen. As the Azerbaijani proverb says: Old Bath - Old Basin). -0-
