Baku/13.01.21/Turan: On Wednesday, Ilham Aliyev issued a decree on awarding Ilham Rahimov "Shohrat" order for many years of fruitful activity in the legal sphere in Azerbaijan, the decree says.
It is not clear what activity, because Rahimov have never been involved in the development or adoption of any legal acts or laws of the country.
He is better known as a classmate of Vladimir Putin and a prominent businessperson, whose interests are far beyond the borders of Azerbaijan - in Moscow.
A graduate of the Faculty of Law of the Leningrad State University in 1978 he became a candidate, and in 1988 a doctor of sciences in the field of criminal law.
He started as a junior researcher at the Institute of Philosophy and Law of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, and then worked at the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan.
In 1992-1996 Director of the Research Institute for Scientific Expertise of Criminology. Then he was vice-rector at the Diplomatic College (Eurasian University). Author of scientific articles and monographs on criminal law and legal proceedings.
According to unofficial sources, Rahimov is a classmate and personal friend of Vladimir Putin.
Formally, Rahimov went into business only in 1999, after the appointment of Vladimir Putin as Prime Minister of the Russian Federation. Then he left the post of vice-rector of the Diplomatic College in Baku and headed the legal department of Lukoil-Azerbaijan. Rahimov's acquaintances are sure. In an interview, he admitted that his main business is related to real estate in Russia.
According to Forbes, Rahimov was a co-owner of several Moscow shopping centers (Evropeyskiy, Sadovod, and Grand) and luxury hotels (Ukraina), the Antipinsky Oil Refinery, whose turnover is estimated at hundreds of millions of dollars. He is also a co-owner of the Kievskaya Ploshchad Company. According to some reports, he sold his stakes in these companies.
Today, Forbes estimates Rahimov's personal fortune at $ 400-500 million.
