Rahim Gaziyev suspects his ex-son-in-law of attacking
Baku/13.06.20/Turan: Rahim Gaziyev, the former Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan, suspects his former son-in-law of attacking, said Elshad Hajiyev, head of the press service of the Main Police Department of Baku.
He recalled that the former son-in-law had previously inflicted bodily harm on him and that a trial is currently underway in this case.
Gaziyev told Turan that so far he has not been officially informed of the progress of the investigation.
“I have no information. I first heard about my former son-in-law from you. The police told me that they will give information about the progress of the investigation, but have not said anything yet,” said Gaziyev.
He said that he himself did not suspect anyone.
“No one can be blamed for the versions. There are video cameras at the scene. You can watch the videos and find out who hit me,” said Gaziyev.
Gaziyev was attacked in the evening of June 12, when he left the house. The unknown hit him with a blunt object, breaking his head.
Rahim Gaziyev was the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan in 1992-93.
In the fall of 1993, he was arrested in the case of the occupation of the cities of Shusha and Lachin by the Armenian troops in May 1992. In September 1994, Gaziyev escaped from the prison and hid in Russia until 1996. Moreover, in 1995 he was sentenced in absentia to death, which was later replaced by life imprisonment.
In 1996, Russia extradited Gaziyev to Azerbaijan, and he was sent to prison. In 2005, Gaziyev was released by presidential pardon. -021C-
