Reaction of Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry to Pashinyan's Statements in Germany
Baku / 02.02.19 / Turan: Documents of international organizations, including 4 resolutions of the UN Security Council in connection with the Karabakh conflict, require the complete, immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. This is stated in the comment of the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan in connection with the statements of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during his visit to Germany.
At a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday in Berlin, the head of the Armenian government noted that "Azerbaijan"s unwillingness to recognize Stepanakert as one of the parties to the Karabakh conflict does not allow us to count on progress in the settlement talks."
"I said earlier that any solution to the conflict should be acceptable to the peoples of Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan. I hoped that a similar statement would follow from Azerbaijan that the resolution of the conflict should be acceptable to the peoples of Karabakh and Armenia. Unfortunately, we have not heard anything like that. And while there are no commensurate statements from Azerbaijan, we, unfortunately, cannot have high hopes that we will move forward in this process," said Pashinyan.
In turn, the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry points to the distortion of the provisions of the international documents on the conflict by the Armenian side.
"First of all, we would like to remind you that as a result of the conflict, it was Nagorno-Karabakh and the seven adjacent regions of Azerbaijan that were occupied, and about a million Azerbaijanis were subjected to ethnic cleansing and forced migrants. In all documents adopted in connection with the settlement of the conflict, OSCE groups are not talking about the "people", but about the population of Armenian and Azerbaijani origin," the ministry"s press service said.
"Mr. Pashinyan, as Prime Minister of Armenia, has to understand that resolving the conflict will give impetus to the independence of Armenia and first of all create a new political situation, as well as open great economic opportunities for the population of Armenia," the Foreign Ministry"s press service said. - 06D--
