ReAl May Reconsider Its Participation in Elections
Baku / 29.12.19 / Turan: The Union of Real Republicans may refuse to participate in parliamentary elections. This was stated to Turan by the leader of the Republican Alternative Party (ReAl) Ilgar Mammadov.
The Union of Real Republicans was established as the campaign block of the ReAl party and a group of independent candidates. As Mammadov noted, the union monitors the actions of the authorities in the pre-election period and will give an assessment.
“If the authorities intensify actions aimed at worsening the human rights situation, do not register most of our candidates and commit other repressive actions, this will put an end to the concept of “elections”. In such a situation, we will reconsider our participation in the elections,” Mammadov said.
At the same time, the Union’s statement demands an impartial investigation into the detention and beating of blogger Mehman Huseynov and the punishment of those responsible.
These repressive actions, which began with the arrest of rapper Parviz Guluzadeh, should be stopped immediately, the statement said. —06D-
