REAL Party Wants to Take Part in Organizing Elections
Baku/02.03.21/Turan: The Republican Alternative Party (REAL) applied to the CEC to obtain representation in the district election commissions. The text of the appeal on the FB page was published by the chairman of the party Ilgar Mammadov.
The appeal noted that at the elections to the Milli Majlis on February 9, 2020, a member of the REAL party, Erkin Gadirli, was elected a deputy in the Yasamal first constituency No. 16.
Currently, 10 political parties are represented in the Milli Majlis, the deputies of which are in the minority. Unlike some other parliamentary parties, REAL is still not represented on district electoral commissions.
In 125 DECs, representation is to be distributed among 10 parties. In this regard, the party intends to nominate at least 3 candidates for DEC members in each of the 12 constituencies. The statement expressed a request for a meeting with the CEC to discuss this issue.
It was not possible to get the opinion of the CEC on the appeal
Note that REAL is a political party founded in January 2009, as a movement, transformed into a party at the congress in April 2018. The party passed state registration on August 31, 2020.
Party leader Ilgar Mammadov was arrested in 2013 and sentenced to 7 years in prison on charges of violating public order in the Ismayilli region during the riots in January 2013. He was only released in 2018, despite a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights that made his arrest unlawful.
It should be reminded that the State Budget of the country has allocated 4 million manats for financial assistance to political parties in 2021. For the first quarter of the year, 10 political parties, including REAL, received funds totaling 857.5 thousand manats. -0-
