Reporters Without Borders Condemn New Sentence to Editor of Criminal.az
Baku / 18.06.20 / Turan: Reporters Without Borders, a press freedom organization, condemned a new court verdict to the editor of Criminal.az, issued by the Agdam district court the day before.
“This is another example of the persecution of a journalist who is already under pressure,” says the organization’s Twitter account.
Recall that the lawsuit against Mammadov was filed by businessman Malahat Gurbanova, demanding the conviction of Mammadov under Art. 147 (libel) and Art. 148 (insult) of the Criminal Code.
The court acquitted the journalist under Art. 147.1 and, according to Art. 148 sentenced him to a year of corrective labor. During the year, 20% of his salary will be withheld in favor of the state. -02B-
