Prosecutor Urged to Sentence Reporter of Newspaper Azadlig to One Year in Prison
Baku / 18.06.20 / Turan: On Thursday, in the Khatai district court of Baku, the prosecutor asked to sentence the reporter of the Azadlig newspaper, Tazakhan Miralamli, to one year in prison on a lawsuit by a man named Ata Abdullayev, who calls himself a blogger.
The process will continue on June 25 with a defense statement.
Tazakhan Miralamli said he did not plead guilty and refused to testify in court.
Miralamli is charged under article 221.1 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code. The subject of the lawsuit was the incident on February 26 this year, during the visit of activists of the PFPA memorial to the victims of the Khojaly genocide.
Abdullayev cursed and insulted the leader of the Popular Front Party Ali Karimli, provoking him to retaliate. All this happened before the eyes of the police, who calmly watched that. When Miralamli called Abdullayev to order, the police “came to their senses” and decided that Miralamli was a bully. -16D-
