Representatives of Red Cross visited two Armenian soldiers detained in Azerbaijan
Baku/08.06.23/Turan: Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited two Armenian citizens detained on May 26.
According to Ilaha Huseynova, head of the Public Relations Department of the ICRC Baku office, a one-on-one meeting was held with the detainees and they were given the opportunity to contact their families through a letter from the Red Cross.
In accordance with its mandate, the ICRC evaluates the conditions of detention and treatment of detainees, and creates conditions for restoration or maintenance of communication with their families. In accordance with the ICRC procedures, observations and recommendations due to the visits are brought only to the detaining party, Huseynova noted.
Armenian servicemen Hovagimyan Arut and Karen Kazaryan was detained on May 26 near the village of Razdara in the Zangilan region.
According to the State Border Service of Azerbaijan, they were members of a sabotage group, the penetration of which was suppressed.
The detainees were charged under a number of articles of the Criminal Code, including terrorism, arms smuggling, border violation. -16B-
