Rumors about the congress of REAL in Tbilisi are unfounded
Baku/11.01.18/Turan: Executive Secretary of the Republican Alternative Movement (REAL) Natig Jafarli denied reports of a number of mass media that the constituent congress of the same party will be held in Tbilisi. "In all probability, some sites have decided to embellish the proposals of a number of REAL activists to hold a congress in Ukraine, Turkey or Georgia," Jafarli told Turan. REAL intends to hold a constituent congress in the framework of laws and continues to work in this direction.
"PFPA, Musavat and other parties were given places to hold the congress, but not REAL.
Such an aggressive attitude of the authorities shows that they do not want the existence of an extra-system political organization, under the leadership of such a leader as Ilgar Mammadov," Jafarli said.
REAL will continue its efforts to create in the country's territory, and in accordance with its laws the party in the year of the century of the Azerbaijani People's Republic.
The REAL Congress was appointed for another October 29, 2017. However, the authorities disrupted all these efforts, including holding a congress at Musavat headquarters, threatening to deprive the latter of the office.
* REAL leader, Ilgar Mammadov, was arrested following protests in Ismayilli city in January 2013.
In 2014, he was sentenced to seven years in prison on charges of organizing riots and resisting a representative of power with the use of violence.
In 2014 the ECHR concluded that Mamedov was arrested on charges of committing these crimes without providing reasonable evidence, and the main purpose of his imprisonment was to punish and silence the oppositionist who criticizes the government.
In connection with the failure to comply with the ECHR decision, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, in accordance with the Article 46, paragraph 4 (compulsory execution of the ECtHR judgments), the Convention began a special procedure against Azerbaijan and referred the matter to the ECHR Grand Chamber.
If the Grand Chamber recognizes Azerbaijan guilty of refusing to execute the verdict of the ECHR, then for the subsequent sanctions measures the issue will be repeatedly sent to the Committee of Ministers.
The Grand Chamber asked the government for answers to its questions in this case until March 31. -03B06--
