Russia calls for strengthening military cooperation in the Caspian - Lavrov on the results of the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Caspian countries
Baku/29.06.22/Turan: On June 29, a summit of the Caspian countries opened in Ashgabat. The day before, a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the coastal countries was also held there. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced the results of this meeting at a briefing.
“The importance of cooperation in the field of military interaction was emphasized. It is proposed to speed up work on an agreement on the development of confidence-building measures regarding the military activities of the Caspian states. The principle of the Convention in the legal status of the Caspian Sea that the presence of armed forces of non-Caspian and non-coastal states is excluded here has been firmly and unambiguously confirmed. Just like in the field of navigation in general, including civil: within the framework of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, it was decided that navigation is carried out only by ships flying the flag of one of the Caspian countries.
The same principle applies to the entry and exit of any ship from the Caspian Sea,” Lavrov said. --02D--
