Russia excluded from the Council of Europe
Baku/16.03.22/Turan: Today, the Committee of Ministers of the organization, adopted decision on excluding Russia from the Council of Europe from March16, according to a communique distributed by the press service of the Council of Europe.
The Committee of Ministers, within the framework of the procedure initiated in accordance with Article 8 of the Charter of the Council of Europe, decided that the Russian Federation ceases to be a member of the Council of Europe from today, the document says. The exclusion of Russia is due to its invasion of Ukraine, which is contrary to the statutory principles of the organization. The day before, Moscow itself also announced that it was leaving the Council of Europe.
Russia has been a member of the Council of the organization since 1996. -06d-
