Russian Foreign Ministry calls on Azerbaijan and Armenia to refrain from escalation
Baku/13.09.22/Turan: "We express extreme concern over the dramatic escalation of the situation in certain areas of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border on the night of September 13," the Russian Foreign Ministry stated on Tuesday.
"We call on the sides to refrain from further escalation of the situation, show restraint and strictly observe the ceasefire in line with the trilateral statements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia of November 9, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021.
We are in close contact with Baku and Yerevan. We have received a request from the Armenian leadership for assistance in resolving the situation in line with existing bilateral agreements and through the CSTO. We expect that the agreement reached due to the Russian mediation on the cease-fire from 9 a.m. Moscow time on September 13 this year will be implemented in full.
We still believe that all the disputes between Armenia and Azerbaijan should be resolved only through political and diplomatic means, and on the border issues - through the work of the bilateral commission on the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border with the consultative assistance of Russia," the statement says. -0-
