Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh not in need of UN mandate - Russian Foreign Ministry
Baku/08.02.23/Turan: There is no need to provide Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh with a UN mandate. Peter Ilyichev, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's department of international organizations, told RIA Novosti.
"The Russian peacekeeping contingent remains the only guarantor of stability in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. There is no need to give it a UN mandate, as the activities of our peacekeepers have already been clearly recorded in the first trilateral statement of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia on November 9, 2020. There is a consensus among the parties to the dispute on this issue, and this fact is the key factor here," the diplomat said.
According to him, it ought to be noted that "the activities of Russian peacekeepers are supported both in Baku and Yerevan, which is of key importance in the uncertainty of the final status of the territory. -02D-
