Rustam Ibrahimbayov: Citizenship Rumors Untrue
"Today I am leaving for Moscow to expedite the release of Russian citizenship. This is a lengthy process, and my presence in Moscow is important to speed it up," said Rustam Ibrahimbayov, a single candidate from the National Council in a telephone interview with a Turan reporter.
He said that he did not arrive in Baku because authorities could arrest him on fabricated charges.
"They could order me not to leave the country, and prevent the opportunity to expedite the release of Russian citizenship. Now I'm going to settle issues, and then will fly to Baku," he said.
Ibrahimbayov also refuted today’s reports that the Russian president has already signed a decree regarding his Russian citizenship.
The reason for refusing the Russian nationality is that Ibrahimbayov’s participation in the presidential elections in Azerbaijan. The Constitution of Azerbaijan does not allow a person holding dual citizenship to be a candidate in an election. -02В-
