Samvel Babayan wants to take power in Karabakh and increase the birth rate
Baku/15.05.23/Turan: The former commander of the Karabakh forces, Samvel Babayan, openly stated that he wants to take power in Karabakh. Today, a large group of his supporters held a rally in Khankendi, demanding that "President" Araik Harutyunyan appoint Babayan as "state minister".
During the rally, Samvel Babayan presented his vision of a way out of the situation. In particular, he called for the creation of a professional army, an increase in the birth rate, and an improvement in the socio-economic situation. He did not specify how to achieve all this, but promised to ensure the result within the first 100 days of coming to power. Then the participants of the rally adopted a statement calling on "President" Araik Harutyunyan to appoint Samvel Babayan "as the Minister of State and give him the appropriate powers in connection with the martial law.
The "chairman of the parliament" Artur Tovmasyan came out to the protesters, who promised to convey the demands of the rally to Harutyunyan and start "political consultations". ---02D--

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
