Sheki police dispersed rally of PFPA and Musavat
In the town of Sheki police illegally disrupted a joint meeting of the local offices of the two leading opposition parties, the Popular Front (PFPA) and the Musavat.
"The police came to the headquarters to where the two organizations were holding the meeting and asked them to disperse," said the head of the Sheki branch of the Popular Front Party Ali Abdullayev.
Attempts to explain the police that they were violating the law and the Constitution, gave nothing. To avoid confrontation, participants of the meeting suspended the meeting and left the room.
"Coming out of the room, we saw that the place was cordoned off by the police and not far from the headquarters there were concentrated another 30 people, who were led by the former representative of the executive power, Abdullayev said.
In the regions of Azerbaijan authorities ban gatherings of opposition even in rooms, which is becoming the norm. On the eve, meetings were banned in Nakhchivan, Lankaran, Sabirabad, etc.
The authorities ignore calls by the international community to respect the laws of Azerbaijan on freedom of assembly and political parties, as well as the fulfillment of international commitments. -0-
