
On Friday co-chair of the World Azerbaijanis Congress, Sabir Rustamkhanli, spent a press conference of the Board of the Congress after a meeting in Frankfurt on 18-19 January. The main topic of discussion was the recent events in Iran.
The Board accepted the appeal to the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, U.S. President Barack Obama, Prime Minister of Georgia, Bidzina Ivanishvili, and the world community. A statement was issued in connection with an environmental catastrophe at the Lake Urmia.
Participants of the meeting touched on social and political situation in Iran, the situation of Azerbaijanis in Russia, Georgia, Iraq, and Syria, as well as the question on creation of the emigration parliament and the parliament of Iranian Azerbaijanis.
According to Rustamkhanli, in the coming months, the Congress will have a meeting in the European Parliament and in America. Meetings with the Iranian opposition and ethnic minorities will continue.
In October 2013 will be the 200th anniversary of the conclusion of the Gulustan a peace treaty. During a year the Congress will hold a conference in connection with the loss of force of the treaty between Iran and Russia, which recognized the division of Azerbaijan into two parts. An international conference will be held in October this year.
Sabir Rustamkhanli responded to a question about the reasons of refusing Mahmudali Chehraganli to Azerbaijan and Turkey. He reported that Chehraganli appealed to the president of Azerbaijan with request to allow him entry into Azerbaijan.
The next meeting of the Board of the World Azerbaijanis Congress will be held in June this year in Georgia. -03C04-
