Staff Changes at Embassies of Azerbaijan
President Ilham Aliyev on January 27 signed a decree on staff changes in the diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan abroad. So, Tural Rzayev was appointed Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Egypt. Earlier Rzayev was Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Kuwait. To this Arab country the President appointed Ambassador Elkhan Gahramanov, who headed the diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan in the United Arab Emirates.
Vaghif Sadigov was appointed permanent representative of Azerbaijan in the Geneva office of the United Nations and several other international organizations. Prior to this appointment he served as Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Italy, and earlier - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In addition, the President withdrew Ilgar Mukhtarov from the position of Ambassador to Mexico, and Elman Zeynalov - to Latvia. -06D--

On January 13, the trial in the case of public activist Nijat Ibrahim continued in the Baku Serious Crimes Court under the chairmanship of Judge Aygun Gurbanova. The trial was suspended after Ibrahim, in protest against the illegal arrest, began banging his head against the "aquarium cage", trying to commit suicide. The International Committee of Concerned Scholars (ICS) has appealed to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, requesting his assistance in securing the release of the arrested researcher, Igbal Abilov. The ICS expressed concern that Abilov's arrest "may be related to his research on ethnic minorities in Azerbaijan, conducted in collaboration with scholars from Armenia."
